Securities Gifts

You may wish to give AFB a gift of securities, including stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have appreciated in value. Gifts of publicly traded securities provide you with a double tax benefit. First, you avoid capital gains tax on appreciated securities and you receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities.

In order to facilitate the stock transfer, please contact Stephanie Sauer, Stewardship and Annual Fund Specialist, at ssauer@afb.org

Donate a Car

Vehicle donations have become very popular throughout the United States. In an effort to accommodate the generosity of our donors, the American Foundation for the Blind has partnered with two non-profit organizations accepting vehicle donations on behalf of charities across the country.

For more information, or to donate a vehicle, please contact Vehicles for Charity online, or by phone at 1-866-628-CARS (1-866-628-2277).

Shop Online

Help AFB Every Time You Shop Online

Would you like to be able to donate to AFB quickly and easily, practically without lifting a finger?

iGive—Visit www.iGive.com and take a minute to enter some information and select AFB as your charity. At the iGive online charitable mall, you can select AFB to receive a portion of your purchase payments each time you shop at one of more than 460 stores. Each time you make a purchase through the iGive online mall, AFB will automatically receive a percentage of the sale as a donation. There are no administrative costs or fees, so you can rest assured that AFB will receive 100 percent of your donation.

Membership to iGive is totally free, and you don't have to pay extra at iGive's online mall (in fact, usually less). Every one of iGive's stores offers safe and secure shopping, and iGive.com will never sell or release any information about an individual member to an advertiser or cause.

For more information, visit www.igive.com.

Smile.Amazon.com—If you use Amazon, there is a feature called Amazon Smile that lets you generate a small contribution (0.5%) to the charity of your choice with each purchase at no charge to you. Simply go to smile.amazon.com and type "American Foundation for the Blind" into the Pick Your Charitable Organization Search bar. Whenever you log onto Amazon, your shopping will automatically result in an Amazon donation to AFB. Your shopping cart, Wish List, registries, and account settings remain the same. You can change your designated charity at any time by going to My Account (but we hope you’ll stay with AFB).

Special Occasions

Birthday, Baptism, Wedding, Memorial—If you have a special occasion coming up, in addition to/instead of a gift registry, why not ask for contributions to AFB? It is a great way to show you care, and let your friends know that our work matters to you.

Cultivation Event—If you are hosting a party, dinner, bowling tournament, or golf outing, why not let people know about AFB? If there is a prize at stake, why not designate a portion of it to AFB? If you are sending out invitations, ask your guests to donate to AFB instead of bringing a gift. Have a few AFB informational brochures available for background information. You may want to invite a speaker from AFB to attend your special event—let the Resource Development team connect you with the right expert.

For more information about how to support AFB, set up a social media or online account, or get help with promoting a campaign, please contact Melody Goodspeed in Resource Development at mgoodspeed@afb.org. We are more than happy to assist!

Matching Gifts

Does your company have a matching gift program?

Did you know a matching gift from your employer can double—even triple—the dollars you invest in helping those who cannot see live like those who do?

Many firms, will match your gift to the American Foundation for the Blind. If you or your spouse work for, or are retired from, a company that has a matching gift program, you can contribute as much as you wish to AFB, and then ask your employer to be at least as generous as you!

Just ask for a corporate matching gift form from your company's personnel office for full information on matching gift eligibility and program limitations.

Your gifts will multiply!

If your company needs to be added or updated on our listing, please contact Stephanie Sauer, Stewardship and Annual Fund Specialist, at ssauer@afb.org. If your company is not listed, please double-check with your personnel office—and let us know if your company has a matching gifts program.
